— Before this life, before I Fell from Heaven, I was once connected to something bigger than me. Not just God, but to an outside order that decides the fates of the universe. I was born connected to it, and was meant to be so for the whole of my life. But, one of my brothers, jealous of the connection, severed it and left me wandering alone without any aim or purpose. I didn’t realize it then, but there was someone watching over me. Someone protecting me while I wandered and tried to find my place in the universe. I wouldn’t discover who it was until after I Fell, though. Upon being Awakened, I was shown my life as it had once been, and I saw a familiar face in every moment I’d left behind — my brother, Jaisen. He’d kept me safe for millennia, and when I decided to Fall, he came with me to make sure that I was protected here, as well. There’s a lot of thing I can my brother — most of them good, a few of them bad — but I will always call him my protector and favorite big brother. — Jaisen and me grew up in a family of strong women. Mama has three sisters and no brothers. Each one of her sisters grew up to be a powerhouse in her chosen line of work. Mama is the head nurse running pediatrics at one of our local hospitals, Aunt Josie is a Wall Street broker with a brokerage firm of her own, Aunt Jamie was an English professor at the University of Colorado, but she worked her way up to President of the school. And, my favorite Aunt, Aunt Kelly, is a high powered defense attorney in our state. She’s got her own firm, and she’s always up for a good debate about anything. I’ve always loved debating with her because she challenges everything I say. For a while, as a child, I thought I might grow up to be like her. A lawyer working at her firm. Then I discovered my absolute love of martial arts and that original dream went out the window. But, if I hadn’t been able to make a living out of my love of movement, I can see myself as having become a lawyer. You might want to feel bad for Jaisen, though. Or maybe not. His only role-model was Bumpa. Who liked to sit around with a beer in his hand and football on the TV. I think that’s why Jaisen became a football player. So Bumpa would take notice of him and be proud of him. — I don’t have many identifying marks or piercings, but I do have a few. After our birth mother came into our lives and told us about where she came from, I went and had a tattoo of the outline of Africa put on the upper left side of my rib cage. I also have a heartbeat line and semi colon tattoo on my right wrist. They’re both just simple line tattoos, no color or anything, but they’re important parts of who I am. My ears are pierced twice in each ear. And I do have a nose ring. That’s pierced through the right side of my nose. Usually I wear a simple diamond stud of some color in it. But I’m allergic to cheap metals. All of my jewelry has to be at least 14k gold. I prefer white gold or platinum. I can get away with either. My jeans aer always a problem when I get them. We have to stitch covers on the backs of the zipper and buttons so that they don’t burn my skin while I’m wearing them. Most of my clothes are made for me these days, though. I don’t generally buy off the rack anymore. It’s nice to have clothes that fit perfectly and not have to worry about them being too long or something. I’m only 5’4 and 100lbs, so it’s hard to find stuff that fits right without having to take it to a tailor.
