Below is a list of terms that are common in role-playing rooms and in conversations with other role-players. The list below is by no means complete and I will continue to add more terms as I think of them. If you have a term that you don't understand, please feel free email me to let me know. I will try to respond to your email as soon as possible, and I will add your term to this list. • Char: Shorthand for “character.” • FF: Shorthand for Free Form. • Forum: Offers standardized rules for all the guilds and kingdoms within them, as well as allies. • Free Form: A style of role-play where the player of a character has complete control over his/her character. Nothing can be done to the character without the player’s consent. • Guild: A group of characters bound together by a common purpose. A guild usually consists of a commander, warriors, spies, healers, and other divisions. • IMRP: Role-play done over AOL’s Instant Messages. • IC: In Character • In Character: Playing the character that you created in a room or IMs. • LF: Shorthand for "Looking For" • LT: Shorthand for "Long Term" • Kingdom: Like a medieval kingdom; overseen by a king or queen with warriors, townsfolk, and merchants. • Moder: Someone who uses god-like powers to escape consequences of a character’s actions. • Mun/Player: The person behind the computer, controlling a character. Mun is also short for “mundane.” • Newbie: A person who is new to role-playing. Also used to describe people who don’t seem to know what they are doing. • OOC: Out of Character • Out of Character: Talking inside of mun bubbles (()); when you aren't speaking or acting as the character. • PB: Shorthand for "Played By." This term is used when using models/actors/actresses and the like for a character's picture. • RP: Shorthand for “Role-Playing.” • SL: Shorthand for Storyline. • Spar: A fight for practice to increase experience points in a guild, kingdom, or forum. • Storyline: A plot/story for a portion of your character’s life.
